Bel Air

Outlook: Coach Donnie Mickey describes 2013 Mustangs as "smaller but very focused." "The goal as always will be to focus on the end of the year," Mickey said. There are 40 girls and 20 boys on the team, and many among them are returnees. Six of the top seven are back from the girls' team that placed second in the UCBAC last fall.

Edgewood

Outlook: The boys' team lost its standout Lenier Tucker to graduation but has strong returnees in Mike and Dave Dzambasow and Sam Verk. With the addition of newcomer Dan Gorski, outstanding last indoor track season, the Rams have a solid top four. The girls' team, with two returnees and two newcomers, is short of a full squad as the season begins.

Fallston

Outlook: The boys' team, 29 strong, returns six of its top seven runners from last year and is led by junior Noah Kudla, one of the top returnees in the county. The girls' team, with 13 on the roster, has three of the top seven back. Senior Brooke Hutton and newcomer Nicole Wohlfort lead the girls. Both teams seem certain to improve on their conference finish of last year.

Harford Tech

Coaches: Jeff Matteson and Lauren Hoover

Top prospects, boys: Austin Wright, Sr.; Zack Armijo, So.; Tyler Moran, Sr.; Hunter Lidke, Jr.; Matt Gengenback, Sr.

Top prospects, girls: Phoebe Steiger, Jr.; Madeline Miller, So.; Hailey Jefferson, Jr.; Alicia Kilgore, Sr.; Katrina Yaroshevich, Sr.

Outlook: The Tech teams, with a total of 17 runners, are described by their coaches as "much stronger than last year." Both teams are likely to improve on their 2012 finish in the UCBAC.

Havre de Grace

Coaches: Bill Walsh and Alex Spooner

Outlook: The Warriors return their top six runners from the girls' team that last year qualified for the state meet. The boys' team is in the rebuilding mode with one returnee and five newcomers.

John Carroll

Outlook: The girls' team returns its top seven and should be a contender for the IAAM A Conference title. Torres describes the team of 31 girls as having "the deepest amount of talent we've had since joining the IAAM." The boys' team is in a rebuilding year with 13 of its 18 runners freshmen or sophomores. Sophomore Evan Moore leads the boys' team.

Joppatowne

Coaches: Cheryl Oricchio and Heidi Fretz

Outlook: The Mariners are rebuilding, having lost their top three boys to graduation.

North Harford

Coaches: Eric Benjamin and Laura O'Leary

Top prospects, boys: Nick Fransham, Jr.; Patrick O'Leary, Jr.; Ian Fiser, Jr.; Calen Dowley, Sr.; Justin Asch, Sr.

Outlook: Last year, the Hawks raced to their best conference finish since 1986, winning both boys' and girls' individual crowns and the girls' team title. The two individual winners, Nick Fransham and Megan Tidey, return to defend their crowns. Also returning are three of the top seven who won the girls' team title and the complete team that took second in the boys' race. There are 29 girls and 28 boys on the team.

Patterson Mill

Head coach: Al Dethlefsen. Boys coach: Matt Provonche. Girls coach: Megan Keenan.
