Nick Fransham set a course record on a newly modified 5K home course and won by almost a quarter mile in leading his North Harford team past Edgewood, Havre de Grace, and Joppatowne in a cross-country meet Tuesday.
Fransham, a sophomore, was timed in 16:25, equaling the record set on a hillier North Harford layout by UCBAC champ Austin McGinley of Rising Sun.
The Hawks won, 22-35, with six runners in the top 10: Chris Busick, third in 17:40; Ian Fiser, fourth, 17:50; Calen Dowley, sixth, 18:44; and Justin Asch, eighth, 18:55; and Patrick O'Leary, 10th, 19:23.
Edgewood, with its team leader Lenier Tucker absent, placed second with Mike Dzambasow second in 17:35; Sam Verk, fifth, 18:24; David Dzambasow, seventh, 18:45; and Langston Gash, ninth, 19:08.
Derien Scott, 21:16, led Joppatowne to third place. For Havre de Grace, twins Braedon and Bryce Ferrell placed 13th and 14th in 19:51 and 19:52.
In the girls' race, Megan Tidey led a seven-place sweep in 20:20. Casey Welsh, 21:09; Annie Scott, 21:23; Regan Davis, 22:20; Emily Zeller, 22:30; Ellen Shephard, 22:32; and Laura Drapinski, 23:05, took the next six places.
The Hawks won, 15-50, over Havre de Grace. Danielle Jankovich, eighth in 24:15, and Maddie Bauld, ninth in 25:44, led the Warriors.
Hoerr, Walker lead C.M. Wright
Matt Hoerr led a seven-place sweep by C. Milton Wright on its home course Tuesday in Bel Air. He finished with a 34-second lead in 16:54.
The Mustangs took the next six places for a 15-55 win over North East: Dan Fleming, 17:27; Brad Ensor, 17:34; Sam Lewis, 17:51; Corey Blanton, 17:52; Max Anderson, 17:58; and Mike Neal, 18:13.
Jake Nikkila, eighth in 19:26, was the first finisher for Patterson Mill, which placed third with 75 points.
In the girls' race the Mustangs took the first four places with Taylor Walker, 20:21; Kelley O'Neill, 20:23; Miriam Silton, 20:34; and Abby Fleming, 20:42.
North East's Erin Palmer placed fifth in 20:45, and Morgan Shipley, eighth in 22:06.
Rounding out the top 10 for Wright were Natalie Hutcheson, 21:40; Lauren Kunkel, 22:04; Becca Palmer, 22:06; and Hannah Palmer, 22:37. The Mustangs won, 16-46.
Aberdeen's Banko wins at Elkton
Aberdeen's Chris Banko covered a 5K course at Fair Hill in 17:11 to win by 3 seconds over Bo Manor's Chandler Brooks Tuesday, but Bo Manor won handily by taking places 2 through 6. Elkton, paced by Xavier Alvarez in seventh place (18:10), finished second.
Bo Manor also won the girls' race, edging Elkton. Lena Muldoon of Elkton won the race in 20:52. Aberdeen's Olivia Webster placed fourth in 22:44 and Jordan Ecker, seventh in 23:21.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
