Holly Cook won her first cross-country race in a John Carroll uniform Wednesday, leading the Patriots to victory over Severn and Maryvale in an IAAM meet at John Carroll.

Cook, a senior who transferred from Bel Air High School, ran 20:54 over the 5K course despite hot conditions and soft footing in spots. She finished 26 seconds ahead of Harmony Roche, of Severn, the runner-up.

Cook's teammates took places 3, 4, 6, and 13 to win in dual-meet scoring, 22-35 over Severn and 20-35 over Maryvale. Kayla Stoots ran 23:01; Taylor Battaglia, 23:03; Rebecca Driver, 23:30; and Talia Kahoe, 24:41, for the Patriots.
