Lenier Tucker set a course record and led the Edgewood boys team to a cross-country victory over three other UCBAC teams at North East Tuesday.
Tucker, a senior, was timed in 16:54, bettering by one second the record set by Rising Sun's Austin McGinley. Edgewood took six of the first seven places as Michael Dzambasow ran 17:14; Sam Verk, 18:03; David Dzambasow, 18:14; Langston Gash, 18:30; and Allston Johnson, 18:37. The Rams won with 16 points.
Elkton finished second with Robbie Luft fifth in 18:30; Sam Wheel, eighth, 19:00; and Josh Biggs-Moore, ninth in 19:06. Micah Dailey was 10th in 19:08 in leading Aberdeen to third place (70 points). Host North East finished fourth with 81.
Kaitlyn Henderson won the girls' race in 20:20, leading North East to an easy win with teammates Erin Palmer, 21:32; Morgan Shipley, 21:58; and Crystal McCollum, 22:36, taking the next three places.
Aberdeen's Olivia Webster placed fifth in 23:22 and Jordan Ecker, seventh in 23:56. Edgewood's Kaley Barnhill was 11th in 26:39.
McCartney, Caretti Lead Patterson Mill
Steph McCartney won the girls' race by 2 minutes, and Sam Caretti, the boys' by a 1-minute margin. Their Patterson Mill teams won by big margins as well Tuesday when they hosted Harford Tech, Joppatowne and Havre de Grace.
McCartney ran 21:06 in leading the Mill girls to a five-place sweep, with Samantha Herman at 23:10; Kayla Ricks, 25:06; Nikki Iacaruso, 25:58; and Lindsey Petty, 26:00.
Harford Tech's Haley Jefferson, 26:01, and Madeline Miller, 26:01, prevented a seven-place Huskie sweep. Emily Regester, 26:22, and Gabriella Bugge-Amundsen, 26:32, took eighth and ninth for the Huskies. Maddie Bauld, 10th in 27:01, led Havre de Grace to second place.
Caretti ran 18:00 in winning the boys' race. Six of his teammates finished in the top 10 behind him: Aaron Smith, 19:00; Ken Ikemoto, 19:01; Lawrence Swartz, 19:16; Jason Noss, 19:18; Alex Marconi, 19:23; and Jake Nikkila, 19:40.
Tyler Moran was fourth in 19:05, and Alex Perdomo, 10th in 20:16 for Harford Tech, which placed second with 56 points. Joppatowne was third with 66, led by Derien Scott, ninth in 20:02.
Bel Air Girls Win
Perryville's Kaylee Haberkam left the pack far behind, but the Bel Air girls prevailed in the scoring Tuesday in a four-team meet at Tollgate Park.
Haberkam won in 19:53, with her teammate Jordan Dodson second in 21:15 over the rolling 5K course. Kelsey Hilditch was third in 21:46, the first of five Bel Air runners in the top 10: Grayson Slencak, fourth in 22:03; Anna Puntanan, sixth, 23:31; Devon Davenport, ninth in 23:41; and Marissa Abbey, 10th, 23:45.
Fallston took second with two in the top 10: Brooke Hutton, fifth in 23:05, and Grace Lekites, eighth in 23:34. Lauren Kunkel, seventh in 23:34, led C. Milton Wright to fourth place.
Perryville's Eric Barton and Caleb Stevens took 1-2 at 17:35 and 17:52 to lead the Panthers to victory in the boys' race. Fallston placed second with Sam Burgess third in 18:31 and Nikos Katsaros, ninth in 19:07. Bel Air was third with top-10 finishes by Jordan Mensh, fourth in 18:41; Garvin McKenna, sixth in 18:48; and Roberto Ascenzi, seventh in 18:52. C.M. Wright, led by Ben Sigmon, 18:44, and Mike Neal, 18:57, was fourth.
