North Harford showed off its strong individual talent in hosting its first cross country meet of the season Tuesday. C. Milton Wright displayed its superior depth to lead the team scoring.
Hawks sophomore Nick Fransham won the boys' race by almost a furlong in 17:36. Hawk junior Megan Tidey won the girls' race by about half that margin in 21:59.
Wright prevailed in the scoring by taking places 2 through 5 in both the boys' and girls' 5K events. Rising Sun finished third in both.
Senior Matt Hoerr led the Mustang boys with a second place finish in 18:11. Three of his teammates followed in order: Brad Ensor, 18:37; Dan Fleming, 18:46; and Mike Capozzoli, 18:54.
North Harford took two of the top-10 spots with Ian Fiser sixth at 19:16 and Chris Busick, eighth at 19:48. The rest of the top 10 spots belonged to Wright. Corey Blanton was seventh in 19:37; Sam Lewis, ninth in 19:49; and Ben Sigmon, 10th in 19:51.
In the girls' race, Taylor Walker finished second in 22:20 with three of her Wright teammates in close pursuit: Kelly O'Neill, 22:33; Abby Fleming, 22:50; and Miriam Silton, 22:59. North Harford kept the score close with Casey Welsh, 23:24; Regan Davis, 23:26; Ellen Shephard, 24:08; and Laura Drapinski, 24:18, in a 6, 7, 9, 10 finish. Rachael Wakefield, at eighth in 23:56, completed the Wright scoring for a 22-33 win.
Fallston Girls Edge Perryville
Perryville's Kaylee Haberkam and Jordan Dodson finished first and second, far ahead of the pack, but the Fallston girls prevailed in a four-team meet on their home course Tuesday.
Fiona Puglese led the Cougars with a third-place finish in 24:41 behind Haberkam (20:54) and Dodson (23:11). Kathryn Milwicz, 25:30, and Samantha Lewis, 25:37, finished ninth and 10th to help Fallston edge the Panthers, 47-50.
Bel Air took third with 56 points, led by Marissa Abbey in sixth, 25:09, and Megan Caudill, seventh, 25:15.
Bo Manor, with Alison Boehmer fourth in 24:46 and Shannon McColsy, fifth in 24:47, scored 63 points.
In the boys' race, both Bo Manor's Franks won in 17:41, but the Eagles fell short of Perryville, 35-45. Both teams put four in the top 10, with the Panthers winning, 35-45.
Perryville's Eric Barton was second in 17:47; Adam Thornton, fifth, 18:43; Kalob Stephans, seventh, 19:06; and Josh Rowley, ninth, 19:29. In the top 10 for Bo Manor were Chandler Brooks, 18:07; Stan Higham, 18:27; and Jake Trybus, 19:21.
Fallston took third, with Sam Burgess sixth in 18:56 and Noah Kudla 10th in 19:32. Jordan Mensh was Bel Air's first finisher at 11th in 19:33.
Tucker Leads Edgewood to Win
Lenier Tucker led a 1-2-4-8-9 Edgewood finish to give the Rams a win over Patterson Mill, North East, and Joppatowne on Edgewood's course Tuesday.
Tucker finished the 5K in 17:13, leading teammate Michael Dzambasow by 4 seconds. Sam Verk ran 18:16; Alston Johnson, 19:29; and Langston Gash, 19:42 to give the Rams a score of 24.
Patterson Mill finished second with five in the top 10. Sam Caretti was third in 17:40; Lawrence Nyanzi, fifth in 19:19; Ken Ihamone, sixth in 19:25; Aaron Smith, seventh in 19:29; and Alex Marconi, 10th in 19:45.
Derien Scott led the Joppatowne boys at 20:10 in 14th place.
Patterson Mill's Steph McCartney won the girls race in 21:23, with Kaitlyn Henderson of North East second in 21:30. North East beat the Huskies, 23-32, with Joppatowne and Edgewood incomplete.
Wright Wins its Two-Mile Invitational
C. Milton Wright edged Perryville, 26-30, in the boys' race and Mount de Sales, 31-39, in the girls' in its Mustang Invitational Aug. 31.
Matt Hoerr won the boys' race in 10:35, finishing 7 seconds ahead of Perryville's Eric Barton. Dan Fleming of Wright was third in 11:04.
