Harford County Executive David Craig said he will do what he can to work with Walmart and avoid having a Supercenter built on Plumtree Road in Bel Air. In a statement Craig said: "I have serious concerns regarding the proposed construction of a Walmart at the site discussed. It is in my opinion the wrong location and not characteristic of the smaller type of retail we had hoped would complement the existing community shopping centers in the area. But more importantly, I have serious concerns about how the proposed project will impact traffic and public safety."
Work began on re-establishing the stream bed of Plumtree Run in Plumtree Park on Thomas Street in Bel Air. Plumtree Run's stream bed had been buried for so long, large trees needed to be cut down and removed from the area before work could begin on the stream.
Supporters of a nationwide Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, organized by Fox News correspondent Mike Huckabee, brought local supporters to the Abingdon Chick-fil-A. Several people interviewed at the restaurant said that they supported Chick-fil-A's president who took a stand against same-sex marriage. Opponents in other areas of the country threatened to refuse the restaurant from setting up restaurants in their towns.
The Denny's Restaurant near the Route 24 and I-95 intersection in Abingdon was gutted by fire. It was determined that the fire, which was started in a men's bathroom, was deliberately set. Video surveillance from the restaurant revealed a person of interest. Photographs taken from the surveillance were released to the media in an effort to identify the person.
The 2012 Cal Ripken 12U Major 70 World Series begins its nine-day event in Aberdeen. This would be the 10th year for the series at the Ripken Baseball Complex. Team Japan won the series beating the United State team from Montgomery County in the final game.

The Harford County Board of Education adopted a new logo, the school system name with a half circle of three leaves. The new logo is part of a re-branding strategy for the school system "in an effort to improve interactive communications between the board/school system and the public," school documents read.
Work began on a mini-roundabout, being constructed at the intersection of West MacPhail and Tollgate Roads in Bel Air. The intersection serves Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and a number of residential neighborhoods. The roundabout will be opened by the end of August.
School begins Aug. 26 for about 38,000 students enrolled in Harford County Public Schools.
Maryterese Streett, owner of Boyd & Fulford Drugs on Main Street, passed away at the age of 81. Known as the county's un-official matriarch and historian, she was one of Bel Air's best known residents.
After 30 years in business, Tedd and Helen Roten, of Hickory Hardware and Supply Store will be retiring and closing their business.
Charges are expected to be brought against the owners of a Forest Hill home where as many as 150 animals were found following a fire. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will also bring charges against the home owners. Firefighters were dispatched to the home in the 2400 block of Rocks Road to put out a fire in the kitchen. During a search of the home firefighters came upon numerous animals, mostly cats, some of which were alive but most were dead. It was estimated that as many as 70-80 animals were found dead and another 70-75 animals were found alive.
A suspicious man was apprehended by police between Edgewood High and Middle Schools. The man was wearing only black boxer underwear on the school complex between 9:30 and 10 a.m. School staff told police they had watched him undress and he was running through the parking lot and approaching people walking into the building. He was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation.
The Harford County Department of Public Works told Bel Air town commissioners that Moores Mill Road from Conowingo Road to Southampton Road will be widened next summer.
