Holiday break started early for students at Havre de Grace Middle School when the school was closed Friday morning after a power outage.

Students were dismissed at 9:15 a.m. after a mechanical failure shut off power, Teri Kranefeld, manager of communications for Harford County Public Schools, said.

"Power has been restored. However, we are now conducting tests to determine the cause of the mechanical failure in order to make the necessary repairs," Kranefeld said at about 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Friday was the last day before the Winter Holiday for Harford Public County Schools. Classes resume Jan. 2.
