The C. Milton Wright Mustangs picked up an important win on Monday night, beating the visiting Fallston Cougars 2-0 with the help of a two-goal performance from junior Megan Frailer.

With the victory, the Mustangs improved to 9-1 overall, and 5-0 in Chesapeake (upper) Division play, while the Cougars fell to 6-3-1 on the season, and 3-2-1 in Chesapeake play.

CMW has one upper-division contest left, that being a Thursday matchup with the Bel Air Bobcats (8-1-1 overall, 4-0-1 Chesapeake). The winner of the game will take the Chesapeake crown, and move on to play in next Tuesday's conference title game against Susquehanna (lower) Division champ Rising Sun. That game will be played at 5 p.m. on Bel Air's home field.

The first half of Monday's matchup was largely a midfield battle, with neither side seeing a good scoring opportunity materialize, and at the halftime whistle the two teams were still knotted 0-0.

It would not take the Mustangs long to score the winning goal in the second half, however, as they needed just 20 seconds to find the Fallston net. Directly after the opening kick, Frailer took a pass near the top of the box from teammate Sarah Piazza, touched the ball once toward the end line, then fired a left-footed shot that curled into the bottom right side of the Cougars goal.

With 13 minutes remaining, Frailer put the nail in Fallston's coffin, scoring on shot to the low, left-hand corner of the opposing goal after taking another pass from Piazza, who collected the ball after a CMW shot ricocheted off the cross bar and back into the penalty box.
