The developer of Corner at Beards Hill, the Aberdeen property that will soon be home to Gino's, was approved for an Enterprise Zone designation by the city council Monday night.

The designation means the developer, Wayne Tapscott & Sons, LLC, will qualify for certain city tax credits on the buildings in the development.

The shopping center at West Bel Air Avenue and Beards Hill Road will have Gino's Burgers & Chicken as well as Aaron's furniture, city Planning and Community Development Director Phyllis Grover said at the meeting.

Gino's expects to open its doors in January, according a Saturday post on its Facebook page.

Also at the city council meeting, Police Chief Henry Trabert said the city is still collecting non-perishable food items and toys for families in the Aberdeen area, and public works director Matt Lapinsky said the Aberdeen Lions Club is still having its Christmas tree sale almost daily.

Councilwoman Ruth Ann Elliott read a poem based on "The Night Before Christmas," remembering men and women in the Armed Forces.

City Manager Doug Miller said the inflow and infiltration process still needs to be done and he also wants to put in a playground at the swim club.

Councilwoman Sandra Landbeck thanked the Appearance and Preservation Committee of the Heritage Trust for the hard work this season, as did Councilman Bruce Garner.

The council also approved a resolution supporting Home Partnership, Inc., which makes homes habitable again, and announced the winners of its Christmas Street contest and the Aberdeen Heritage Trust's Holiday Decorating Contest.

The meeting was followed by the council annual Christmas social.
