“We’re trying to bring science to the general public,” says Dr. Nina Lamba, an NMTC board member.
Inspired by the science pubs in her native England, Lamba, who is also president and chief specialist of CCL Biomedical, LLC in Havre de Grace, thought they’d be a great event for Harford County.
The science cafés, which began in December 2010, are held on the second Tuesday of every month from September until June. Each event includes complimentary coffee and a brief presentation, followed by discussion.
“There’s science in everything, really,” says Lamba. “The science cafés are audience driven. They’re very fun and very social.”
The next science café will take place at 7 p.m. on September 11 at the Abingdon library branch at 2510 Tollgate Road, Abingdon, Md. For more information about the science cafés, please visit nmtc.org.
