The Runabouts Then and Now 2012 concert held on May 19 at the Havre de Grace Community Center was a huge success. Paid attendance was 417 with 34 musicians performing four sets of rock and roll. After expenses, a total of $6,780.00 will be given to the following six non-profit organizations, each receiving $1,130:
Grace Place, The Kitchen Door, The Winter Wonderland Committee, The Jane M. Johnston Foundation, The National MS Society (Walk MS Team "A Prayer In Motion") and The Havre de Grace High School Band.
For those of you unfamiliar with some of these organizations, Grace Place and The Kitchen Door feed the hungry and less fortunate of our Havre de Grace neighbors. Sponsored by St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. John's Episcopal Church, respectively, these two all volunteer organizations exist entirely on charitable donations.
Ever wonder who does all the work and pays for that fantastic streetscape in Havre de Grace during the Christmas season? It's the Winter Wonderland Committee, another all volunteer organization.
The Jane M. Johnston Foundation is named in memory of a Harford County art teacher who died of cancer in 2006. Her husband Alex, started the Sunflower Miracle Campaign in Jane's honor to help children with cancer.
A Prayer In Motion is a Walk MS Team led by the wife of The Runabouts lead guitarist. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2005 and participates in the Towson Walk MS every year among other events. We wanted to help her surpass her goal for 2012.
Five of The Runabouts graduated from Havre de Grace High School in the 1960s. Four of them were members of the Havre de Grace High School Band. We wanted to help the band members cover some of their costs since they did us so proud at Disney World earlier this year.
We want to thank Harford County Executive David Craig for issuing a Proclamation to The Runabouts presented by Mayor Wayne Dougherty in Mr. Craig's absence, Mayor Dougherty and the City of Havre de Grace for their help and support, MacGregor's Restaurant, Dan and Cindy Lee for catering the event, Havre de Grace Branch of Harford Bank, Havre de Grace Visitor's Center, Java By The Bay and Vincenti Decoys for selling tickets, The Office Centre for printing the tickets, Jay McSpadden for his generous donations to the cause and Leo Heppner for his professional photography services. A special thank you to all of the guest musicians appearing in the friends set and family set, The Runabouts enjoyed playing our kind of rock and roll with all of you.
In 2010, The Runabouts and Friends Reunited concert donated $6,175 to the Heritage Museums in the city for a total of $12,955.00 for the two events.
Thanks to all who attended The Runabouts Then and Now 2012, your support helped many people and organizations feed the hungry, decorate the city, help children with cancer, children and adults with MS and the current group of Havre de Grace High School musicians. We are forever grateful.
Keep On Rockin'!
