The following letter was delivered to Leonard D. Wheeler, president of the Board of Education of Harford County. A copy was provided for publication.
The Board of Education of Harford County is currently reviewing, discussing, and considering the Superintendent's Recommendations pertaining to the FY 14 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for Harford County Public Schools. In accordance with the Board's public deliberation and input from members of the community regarding the FY14 CIP, I am hereby advising the Board of my funding priorities for schools.
For FY 14, I plan to include funding in the Capital Budget for Havre de Grace High School and Youth's Benefit Elementary School. For FY 16 I plan to include funding in the Capital Program for William Paca/Old Post Road Elementary School and Homestead/Wakefield Elementary School.
The aforementioned four schools are my top funding priorities. I would appreciate the Board's favorable consideration of this request as well as its support in working with the Harford County Council to approve funding for said projects. The County Council is a partner in the budget process and I hope that you, the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Tomback, and the Administration can work together with the County Council to ensure that appropriate funding is provided for these critical projects.
In closing, I look forward to working cooperatively with Superintendent Tomback and the Board on both the Capital and Operating Budgets for FY 14 and beyond.
