The town of Port Deposit is searching for new people to fill its police force. The town's two officers left the force and went on to the Cecil County Sheriff's Office and Queen Anne's Sheriff's Office, respectively, according to Mayor Wayne Tome.
In addition, Chief Joe Swam will resign from his position as of July 15, he added.
The town is advertising for a police chief and officers and one of the officers is expected to be on a part-time basis, Tome said. The town may also use the Cecil County Sheriff's Office patrols instead of hiring a third officer.
Until the new people are hired, Tome said, Port Deposit is using the sheriff's office deputies for supplemental coverage.
After disbanding its police force in 1993 and arranging police coverage through the Cecil County Sheriff's Office, Port Deposit reformed police department in 1998.
