Snow threat to close Harford schools 2 hours early Friday

Harford County Public Schools will dismiss two hours early today, Friday, because of the threat of inclement weather.

There will be no afternoon pre-K or preschool services, the school system reported shortly before 11 a.m. All afternoon/evening school activities are canceled. 

The school system said it will evaluate weather conditions Saturday morning and a decision will be made regarding weekend activities by 5 a.m. Saturday and will be communicated through website http://www.hcps.org as well as media outlets.

Earlier Friday morning, Baltimore County Public Schools announced a two-hour early close Friday afternoon and no evening activities.

The National Weather Service forecast for the Bel Air area is snow, mainly after 4 p.m., with total daytime accumulation of one to two inches possible. Temperatures are expected to rise only to a high of 23 degrees with calm winds. The chance of participation is 80 percent.

Snow is expected to continue into the evening hours, mainly before midnight, with an additional accumulation of one inch possible, according to the NWS. The chance of evening precipitation is 90 percent. Overnight Friday – Saturday temperatures are expected to fall to 16 degrees.
