Know Your Vote: Ballot Questions and Candidates will be presented Thursday, Sept. 27, in the Chesapeake Theater at Harford Community College, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The nonpartisan event will present information on state and county ballot questions before voters in the Nov. 6 general election for the first hour and a forum for candidates for Congress from Harford Congressional Districts 1 and 2 in the second hour.
There will be clarification presented on the wording of the statewide and Harford County ballot issues, as well as an explanation of what a "yes" or "no" vote means on each. Statewide issues include petitioned referendums on recently enacted state laws covering same sex marriages, in-state tuition rates for children of illegal immigrants and congressional redistricting. There is also a statewide question on gambling expansion legislation recently approved by the Maryland General Assembly.
Harford County ballot questions cover seven proposed amendments to the county charter.
Community groups will have the opportunity to express their views on specific ballot issues in an "Advocacy Room" that will be set up adjacent to the Chesapeake Theater. To reserve a space for your group, please register by calling Harford Community College at 443-412-2236. Participating organizations must adhere to all established rules and regulations.
This nonpartisan educational opportunity is offered by the League of Women Voters of Harford County, the Harford County Branch of the American Association of University Women and the Political Awareness Association of Harford Community College.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
