Maryland State Police have identified the injured motorcyclist as Franklin Melbourne Thomas, 45, of Baltimore, Lt. Charles Moore, commander of the Bel Air Barrack, said Tuesday.
The motorcycle sideswiped a Jeep, driven by Susan Heaton, 51, of Atglen, Pa., who was heading north in the opposite lane. As he did, he dropped his motorcycle and rolled off, Decker said.
Heaton's husband, Edward Heaton, 49, was behind her on his 2001 Yamaha motorcycle and ran over Thomas, Decker said.
Thomas was flown to Christiana Hospital in Delaware. Edward Heaton was taken by ambulance, also to Christiana Hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries, Decker said. He has since been released from the hospital. Kelly Heaton was not injured.
Thomas' son, Steven Thomas, said Tuesday many people have told him they are thinking of his father and he appreciates their support.
