Harford County officials and legislators spent about $17,600 to attend this summer's Maryland Association of Counties conference, less than the $20,000 they spent last year.
The county council ultimately spent about $6,015, while Harford County Executive David Craig's office spent $11,575, according to information provided by both of their offices.
The annual conference was held this year in Ocean City from Aug. 14 to 17.
Craig did not have any expenses from the event. He received free registration as a past MACo president and has his own home outside Bethany Beach, Del., where he has stayed during past conventions.
The county also gets four free registrations for those working the county booth in the exhibit hall, spokeswoman Sherrie Johnson said.
County officials' expenses ranged from $1,911.22 for Chief of Staff Aaron Tomarchio to $270.66 for Public Works Director Tim Whittie.
Fourteen officials besides Craig attended.
Last year, Craig had 17 members attend and the total cost to the county from both council and administration attendance was about $20,000.
On the council's end, Councilman Chad Shrodes attended the annual conference, but did not submit any expenses.
"I am paying for all expenses, including lodging, meals, mileage, [etcetera] as personal expenses at no cost to Harford County taxpayers," Shrodes wrote in an e-mail earlier this month.
Council President Billy Boniface did not attend the conference because of illness.
Councilman Dion Guthrie spent $1,382.98, Councilman Joe Woods spent $881.32, Councilman Jim McMahan spent $987.30, Councilman Dick Slutzky spent $1,359.23 and Councilwoman Mary Ann Lisanti spent $1,404.59.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
