Having chosen the Bel Air and Abingdon branches for Sunday hours early on in the process, the Harford County Public Library administration has been working for months on finalizing the third branch that would open Sundays.
The inclusion of Sunday hours comes from a recently passed Harford County budget amendment, which will fund the longer hours.
At Thursday's Board of Trustees meeting, library Director Mary Hastler announced that the third branch would be Aberdeen, pending approval after a public hearing at trustees Sept. 20 meeting.
The Sunday hours would be from 1 to 5 p.m. at all three branches, from October through April. Within those months, the branches would not be open on Veteran's Day on Nov. 11, the Sunday between Christmas and New Years and Easter Sunday.
At the Abingdon branch in particular, the library will be closed the Sunday following the annual gala, because of the amount of work it takes to get the library cleaned up, according to Hastler, who added that she is excited for the new hours.
"I didn't think we'd see this for a while," she said.
Board of Trustees members signed the conflict of interest policy and also accepted a report on personnel changes, including promotions, transfers and resignations, during the board meeting.
The board meeting also ended with a closed session which Chairperson Louise LeTendre said was to review the director's work plan and goals for fiscal year 2013.
