Several Harford County fire companies assisted in fighting Monday afternoon's big fire in the Fells Point area of Baltimore City.

A tower truck from Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, manned by five firefighters, was sent to potentially assist in fighting the Fells Point fire, Bel Air Fire Chief Eddie Hopkins said late Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 1:40 p.m. in a vacant warehouse in the 500 block of South Broadway near Eastern Avenue. At least 130 firefighters had responded to the blaze, which went to five alarms.

Besides Bel Air, the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company also relocated units into Baltimore City, Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association spokesman Dave Williams said.

He did not know the numbers of apparatus that actually went, whether they were at the fire scene or the duration of their stay.

The companies of Abingdon, Joppa-Magnolia and Fallston were also asked to advise or provide staffing for their engine and truck crews, Williams said.
