The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund is moving closer to its 2011 fund-raising goal of $80,000, but the fund is still more than $34,000 short as the annual drive to help less fortune Harford County families and senior citizens have a happier holiday season moves into December.
As of Wednesday, $45,340 had been received. Special thanks for recent donations goes to Gerry and Susan Manuel, $100; Ron and Lynda Kerdasha, $200; Stephen and Laureen Egan, $750; Jennie Fleckenstein, $100; Frances Burkheimer, $300; Robert and Rose Coomes, $150; Rainbow Rebekah Lodge 95, $150; Margaret Arnold, $150; Elizabeth Smith and the late Coach Jim Smith, $200; and Bunny Worthington, $200. Several anonymous donations have also been received, for which the Empty Stocking Fund Committee wishes to thank all who have given.
Don't forget, TheAegis Empty Stocking Fund will hold its popular annual toy drive featuring a visit with Santa this Saturday, Dec. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. inside the Bel Air Reckord Armory at 37 N. Main St. in Bel Air.
The toy drive is a nice way for children to learn the joy of giving and to get a chance to see the jolly old man in red, according to members of the Empty Stocking Fund, who encourage everyone to bring a new unwrapped toy to give to a needy child and tell Santa what you are hoping for this season.
A Jewelry Extravaganza and Holiday Gift Show will also be held Saturday at the armory from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Harford Ballet Company's production of "The Nutcracker" will be presented this Saturday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m., at Patterson Mill High School at 85 Patterson Mill Road in Bel Air. Support of The Empty Stocking Fund helps make the dreams of underprivileged children come true. Guests are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the performance which will be donated to The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund. Join Kelly's Hair Design at 604 Moores Mill Road in Bel Air on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to raise money for The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund. There will be door prizes and vendors from PartyLite; Two Sisters Gourmet; Lullaby Kisses; Thirty-One Bags; Sun Frog Handmade Jewelry and Rendi. Gift certificates will also be available. Raffle tickets will also be on sale and 100 percent of proceeds will to The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund.
Harford Community College will celebrate the holidays with a concert by two-time Grammy Award winner Rita Coolidge at the Amoss Center Saturday, Dec.10, at 7 p.m. HCC is a contributor to the Empty Stocking Fund and invites all patrons to bring a donation of a new and unwrapped children's gift to this special holiday performance.
