The Harford County Council appointed the first-ever county auditor at Tuesday's legislative session.

An unanimous vote approved the appointment of Chrystal Moore to the new position. Moore was at the meeting and thanked the council members for their support. Moore, of Abingdon, will start her position March 5, according to a news release.

Her background includes a bachelor's degree in accounting from Towson University and an internship, and later position, with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC, according to the release. where she handled government and information technology audits.

Moore is also a certified public accountant, certified internal auditor, certified government auditing professional, certified information systems auditor and certified government financial manager, according to the release.

Moore's salary will be $90,000, according to County Council Administrator Pamela Meister.

The new position is a "long time coming," Councilwoman Mary Ann Lisanti said Tuesday evening.

The council has been pushing for a county auditor in at least the five years she has been there, Lisanti added. A county auditor is not new to "contemporary government" either, she said, and several districts of equal size to Harford County had an entire staff of auditors.

"It has been a long process in finding the right person to take on the challenges of the position of County Auditor," Council President Billy Boniface said in the release, "but I think our persistence has paid off in the appointment of Chrystal Moore."
