Harford County Executive David R. Craig recently recognized Scouts and Scout leaders from the Boy Scouts of America, Baltimore Area Council, for the upcoming 2013 "Scouting for Food" campaign. Several Scouts and Scout leaders were greeted by Craig at his office and presented with a donation of two bags of food.

"Scouting for Food" is a food collection effort carried out by the Boy Scouts, Venture Scouts, Cub Scouts and adult volunteers from scouting organizations and local communities. Scouting units will collect food from communities close to their chartered organizations and then deliver the food they collect to an area food pantry.

This year's "Scouting for Food" campaign begins Saturday, with Scouts going door to door throughout Harford County. The following weekend Scouts will collect bags that have been filled with non-perishable food items.

The food collected during the "Scouting for Food" campaign will be delivered by Scouts to local food pantries at churches, shelters and local agencies that help feed those in need in Harford County. This year the food will be delivered by Scouts to more than 25 local food pantries.

Last year, through the generosity of Harford County residents, more than 38,000 food items were collected and donated to local food pantries.

Commenting on the "Scouting for Food" campaign, Craig said, "As a former Scout, and proud father of an Eagle Scout, it is an honor and privilege to support such a worthy cause. Scouting helps bring out the best in our youth, and service for the benefit of others is a prime example of what Scouting is all about."
