John Carroll juniors Kate Rizzieri, Emily Patrick and Rita Watson, members of Girl Scout Troop 1382, earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting, presented to them at a reception at Martin's East on April 14.
Their efforts were acknowledged, in the form of Congressional, Senatorial, Gubernatorial and Presidential Citations. To receive this honor, a girl must use her organizational, leadership, project management and teamwork skills to serve her community. Each of the three used her unique talents and skills to develop and implement individual projects to make a difference in Harford County.
Kate organized a "Bicycle Rodeo" to teach young children proper bike riding techniques, which would prevent injuries. Emily organized a summer program, recruiting and training more than 30 volunteers, to assist Harford County Public Schools with special needs children. Rita combined her love of sports with her artistic talent to create a mural that adorns the outside of the Emmorton Recreation Center encouraging the community to use the healthy and active services offered by the center.
