Bishop Frances Malooly conferred Diocesan Medal of Merit awards on Sunday, Oct. 21 at St. John the Beloved Church in Millcreeek, Del. This year's local recipients were Sharon Rapposelli of Perryville (representing good Shepherd Church in Perryville), Bill and Marilyn Pare of Colora (representing St. Agnes Church in Rising Sun) and Mike and Blanche LeBrun of Colora (representing St. Teresa's Church in Port Deposit). Congrats to all the 91 merit awardees for 2012.
Much sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Meyer Jenson, Rising Sun, as he passed away on Oct. 24 at his home. Condolences are sent out to his wife and three children: Charles; my old classmate, Nancy, of Port Deposit; and Glen, also of Port Deposit.
Amanda Poist, granddaughter of Benny and Carlene Poist, added a year to her age on Nov. 8.
Twenty-five basket lovers traveled with Brenda Conjour and her fellow Longaberger basket consultants Anne Gibson, Pat Beauchamp, Deb Leadore and Wendy Leonard, to Ohio last weekend. The group visited the Longaberger Homestead, the restored canal town of Roscoe Village in Coshocton and the town of Dresden. Consultant Ann Gibson brought Marlene Rose and Linda Stevenson from Harford County, Karen Crockett from Delta, Pa., plus Maggie Jackson and Pat Hayden from Port Deposit, and Stephanie Gibson from Conowingo.
Our son, Jason, celebrated his birthday on Nov. 3 and Donnie Poist, son of Benny and Carlene Poist, enjoyed birthday wishes on Nov. 4.
Steve Fox, son of Marion Fox, celebrated his big day on Nov. 6 as did Teresa Bittner, now living at Sunny Acres Assisted Living Facility in North East. Teresa celebrated her 89th birthday on Election Day.
The officers and board of directors of the Port Deposit Heritage Corporation were to meet Wednesday in the Paw Paw Building. Since this is the year for the Candlelight Tour on Saturday, Dec. 1, the board continues to make plans for this event.
The Paw Paw Museum, 98 N. Main St., will next be open on Sunday, Dec. 1 for the Candlelight Tour. Otherwise it is closed for the season.
The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony in celebration of Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, at dusk at the post home, 520 Susquehanna River Road, Port. Bring damaged or worn flags to the post at 5 p.m. that evening and dispose of them properly. Light refreshments will be served by the ladies auxiliary and the public is invited, especially those thinking about joining the VFW membership or auxiliary.
Good Shepherd Parish has scheduled its Christmas Bazaar for Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Good Shepherd Catholic School, 800 Aiken Ave., Perryville. Spaghetti suppers will be served both evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. and there will be games, music, food, vendors, Santa, raffles, a basket wheel and much more.
