5K run/walk starts, ends at Perryville Middle June 2

Havre de Grace Chapter 27 would like to thank everyone for their support at their first ever Applebee's Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast last weekend. Also a big thank you to the staff of Applebee's and for all the sisters and brothers who were greeters, servers, kitchen help and bus people.

The CGR Relentless 5K Run and Fun Walk will benefit The Cody G. Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund. It will be held on June 2 in Perryville. The run/walk will start and end at Perryville Middle School. It will proceed down Aiken Avenue, right on Broad Street, right on Susquehanna Avenue, left on Frenchtown Road, left on Broad Street and left on Aiken Avenue. The walk route is only 3K and slightly different. Registration is available on active.com or through the downloadable mail-in form. Registration will be open on-site on race day beginning at 8 a.m. and the run/walk starts at 9 a.m. All proceeds go toward the scholarships for Cecil and Harford County high school seniors going on to running programs at the college level.

Join St. Paul's Lutheran Church for their celebrity scoop night at Rita's Water Ice, 772 W. Bel Air Ave., Aberdeen on Monday April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m., with 20 percent of sales going to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Youth attending the National Youth Gathering.

Texas Hold 'Em at the American Legion Post 135, 300 Cherry St., Perryville, will be played on Fridays, May 4 and 18 and June 1. Games start at 7 p.m. with registration at 6. Side game is at 4. Buy-in is $25. Also they will have a Saturday game on June 16. Game start at 2 p.m. with registration at 1. A side game is at 4. Buy-in is $50. All fundraisers benefit American Legion programs.

The annual Perryville Spring Fling will be on May 12 at 9 a.m. at Perryville Middle School and will consist of a fair with craft and food vendors, kid's games, entertainment, etc. Sponsored by the Perryville Chamber of Commerce.

The Greater Perryville Chamber of Commerce will host its 2nd annual Spring Fling 5K and 1 Mile Walk.

Last year's event helped the chamber donate to such local organizations as Perryville High School (track, football and field hockey teams), Perryville Middle School (staff appreciation luncheon, holiday adopt-a-family), Perryville Elementary School (Earth Day Walk-a-Thon), the Destination Imagination team (trip to national tournament), Perryville Volunteer Fire Department (annual donation), Cecil College (annual scholarship), Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway (River Sweep), Perryville Little League and more. Proceeds from this event also go toward other community events such as the Autumnfest Parade and Festival.

Part of the money raised from this event will go toward the chamber's new fundraising partnership with the Perryville High School Football Booster Club and Cecil County schools. This partnership has been developed to raise money to make upgrades to Perryville High School's sports fields. The first project to be tackled will be the replacement of the school's scoreboard. Other future projects include new storage facilities, resurfacing the stadium turf and the installing a digital sign at the school's exit to announce the events going on at the school.

The First Baptist Church of Perryville will hold a community block party at the lot adjacent to Rodgers Tavern on May 19 from 1 to 6 p.m. Food, games, prizes and a DJ will be at this free event.

May 16 will be the Outreach Program's Chief's Challenge Basketball and Skate Tournament at 10 a.m. at Trego Field in Perryville.

Want to make some money and help out a good cause at the same time? Join Food Lion for its annual spring yard sale on Saturday. $10.00 per parking spot – buy as many parking spots as you think you need. All proceeds will benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Setup begins at 7 a.m. and the yard sale will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food Lion will be grilling and selling refreshments. The Say Cheese Gourmet Grilled Cheese Food Truck will also be on site serving hot sandwiches. See Stephanie or Rachel at customer service to register. Rain day is May 5.

Havre de Grace Elks Lodge is having a waffle breakfast on Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. for $6. per person. Self-serve breakfast includes homemade waffles with your choice of toppings of apples, cherries, blueberries, syrup, whipped cream and butter. Included is bacon, sausage, tomato juice, orange juice, tea and coffee.

Basket and Vera Bradley Bingo will be held Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 201 Mount Royal Ave. Event is sponsored by Grace's Grateful Grapes in support of Relay for Life. Early bird at 6:50 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Food, dessert table and drinks available. Bring a non-perishable food items for a free ticket/bonus drawing. Items needed include pancake mix, syrup, spaghetti, pasta meals and jelly. Tickets are $12 at the door. Additional sets of three cards are $5. St. Paul's Lutheran Church will have a "Living Waters Café" today (Friday) from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Join them for fellowship and song. Music by Joyful Noiz. The ladies of the OWC went to Toby's dinner theatre to see their morning brunch performance of "Hairspray." Wow!! It was terrific. Those attending included Gail Ashby, Patty Chernick, Kathy Collette, Diane McGrillis, Joanne Roland and I.
