August is full of important activities in Aberdeen!
The opening ceremonies for the Cal Ripken World Series are today (Friday). The host team from Forest Hill will play tonight and all is in readiness for the big parade Saturday in downtown Aberdeen starting at 11 a.m.
August 14 through 19 the carnival comes to town at Cal Sr's Yard.
Next weekend, Aug. 18 and 19, is the Championship Weekend that will be the determining time for the 16 teams that have come to Aberdeen to compete.
International teams from Australia, Canada, Korea, Dominical Republic, Japan and Mexico will compete with 10 domestic teams.
The Cal Ripken World Series is the foremost International Amateur Baseball Championship tournament for the Babe Ruth League's 12 and under age division.
This is one of the biggest events in Harford County, bringing in families from all over the world! It will be nationally televised, making us the showcase for Harford County.
Going from the young to a much older group, the senior center is full of activities. Today from 10 until 11 a.m. there will be a veterans discussion workshop.
On Tuesday, Aug. 14 there will be a Coffee Talk with Suzanne at 11 a.m.
On Thursday, Aug. 16 bingo and nutrition will go from 10 a.m. until noon.
On Friday, Aug. 17, Brain Games "Taste, Smell and Feel!" is at 12:30 p.m. Special gifts will be awarded to the winners!
On Tuesday, Aug. 21, "Hide and Seek: What Doesn't Belong?" will be played with prizes awarded to first, second and third place winners.
On Thursday, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m. there will be a diabetes workshop with Upper Chesapeake's Pat Durnan.
On Wednesday, Aug. 29 there will be a crab feast at 12:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Aug. 30 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. there will be story-telling and Memory Enhancements of Old Time Bathing Suits Dress-up Comedy with Mary Ellen Fonte.
On Friday, Aug. 31, there will be the big birthday celebration at 12:30 p.m. and it's special because it's Peggy's birthday!
It look as though there will be plenty to do and see this month, so make the most of it!
