The Day of Infamy, dear readers,
Is what President Franklin D. Roosevelt called today, Dec. 7, 1941 with the Japanese attack upon Hawaii. Now called Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, it is embedded in our national psyche and continued by our veterans in remembrance with flags at half-staff.

Sunday, Dec. 9, marks the first day of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, the eight-day Jewish celebration commemorating the retaking of the Temple in Jerusalem by the Maccabees in the 2nd century BCE. In remembrance, Jews light a menorah and eat potato pancakes called latkes. Hanukkah continues until Dec. 16.

Mary Boehly informed me that the Havre de Grace Arts Commission's Graw Days ceramic horse medallions (Christmas ornaments) are available at the HDG Visitor Center, 450 Pennington Ave., 410-939-2100 for purchase. The 2012 medallion features "War Admiral;" $10. Past medallions are $15 each.
Additionally, look for the raffle of the Havre de Grace police child's pedal car. Tickets are $5, available at the Visitor Center, to benefit the activities of the HdG Arts Commission. The drawing is tonight (Friday).
