Welcome dear readers,
To Native American/Indian Heritage Month in November.
Fair warning! Daylight savings time ends Nov. 4. Make sure you set back your clocks one hour Sunday morning. Otherwise, you will be an hour early to the church pews on Sunday morning!

Get your stingers out; some fellow Scorpios have birthdays this week: Pam Walker (Nov. 1) (dear younger "best friend" – I do not reveal a lady's age unless she requests me to do so as you did in your fax – my momma taught me never do so.) My neighbors on Union Avenue, Jim and Ridge Pilcher will celebrate their combined November birthdays, right along with mine (Nov. 3) and Rick Holloway Jr. (Nov. 4). Anniversary celebrants are David and Courtney Tramontana (Nov. 4). Best wishes to all.
Native Americans first made decoys in our environs for hunting. You are invited to the 26th anniversary celebration at the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum Saturday with wine and hor d'oeuvres at 6 p.m. The program begins at 7 p.m. with highlights: Jim Pierce figure presentation/special auction of rare Jim Pierce decoys. Tow in the fishing nets. Rosie Deal told me about the fish fry platters with fries and cole slaw for $7 Nov. 10 from noon to 3 p.m. at the VFW Lodge on Lodge Lane, 410-939-4578.
Cathy Vincenti informed me that the Havre de Grace Chamber of Commerce will host the 16th annual prayer breakfast meeting Nov. 8 at Silks Restaurant in Bulle Rock, 7:30 a.m. Sponsor is Chad Tate. Reserve at 410-939-3303 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets are $16 and proceeds benefit the charity work of the Susquehanna Ministeriums.
Don't forget to vote Tuesday, Nov. 6. As I viewed my official specimen ballot from the Harford County Board of Elections, I noticed the write-in candidates for President of the USA versus Obama or Romney, one could vote for Santa Claus; though I wondered whether he would be disqualified as a resident of the North Pole.
Have pre-election fun by celebrating Guy Fawkes Day like they do in Great Britain. Remember, remember the 5th of November! Celebrated in England with fireworks and bonfires, this popular holiday recalls the 1605 foiling of a plot to blow up Parliament at the beginning of King James I reign.
Nov. 7 is Marie Curie's birthday, born in Warsaw, Poland in 1867. Madame Curie earned degrees in physics and mathematics at the Sorbonne in Paris. In 1911, Curie won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for her work in radioactivity.
Mary Boehly told me about the Havre de Grace Arts Commission's commemorative medallion of War Admiral for sale ($10) at the Havre de Grace Tourism Office. Past medallions are $15.
Wow, what a sensation the USAF Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble made at the American Legion Post 47, the evening of Oct. 17. Veterans from Perry Point VA Medical Center mixed with local folks to enjoy "Sweet Georgia Brown," "Night Train" and "Sunny Side of the Street" with tributes to jazz and the big band leaders of swing. Thanks to the Havre de Grace Arts Commission for bringing such superb entertainment to our community.
Like a big pile of raked leaves, there's another column for you to jump into. Keep me notified of your events and happenings at 410-939-6562 or 226 N. Union Ave. See ya!
