Sissy Borel, National VFW Auxiliary president hailing from Starks, La., left her home on Aug. 25 for an East Coast itinerary of VFW post visits. She arrived in Maryland recently and visited posts all over the state in Districts 5, 10 and 14.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, she visited the Dublin-Darlington VFW Post 10146 in Street for lunch. Then on Friday, Sept. 6, Borel and her entourage, which included Department of Maryland President Lyn MacArthur (of VFW Post 5337) and Department of Maryland Historian Libby DallaTezza (of VFW Post 6698) and their spouses visited the Weedon-Elliott Post 8126 in Havre de Grace, followed by an evening visit to the Jerry Skrivanek Post 8185 in Port Deposit. Borel's Maryland visit ended on Saturday, Sept. 7 with a breakfast visit to VFW Post 7687 in Chesapeake City.
Borel was then escorted to Middletown, Del., where she began that state's visitations, followed by those scheduled in Pennsylvania. Borel was to fly to Indiana on Sept. 15 to attend the National Commander-in-Chief's Homecoming then return home to Louisiana for a brief respite before heading off to the Midwest for more post visits.
While at VFW Post 8185 in Port Deposit, Borel enjoyed snacking with that post's auxiliary officers and she mentioned that her three sons are all military veterans. She answered questions about VFW policies and she encouraged the local ladies to become more involved in the VFW's legislative program, while continuing to provide aid to all veterans.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
