William and Mary Jo Collins celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 7 and renewed their vows at St. Margaret Parish in Bel Air. They were married Sept. 7, 1963 at St. Stanislaus Church in Superior, Wisc.
After renewing their vows, they couple hosted a reception at The Tower on Main Street in Bel Air. Framed pictures from various times over their 50-year marriage were on display. A DVD of family slides made by the groom was playing. The groom's Marine Corps sword was used to cut the cake just as on their wedding day. The bride was shocked to see her wedding dress and veil hanging up - she thought it was given away to a museum in her hometown. Everyone toasted the bride and groom.
The couple was surrounded by family. In attendance were their four children: Joseph Collins, of Surrey, England; Kathleen Herron, of Reston, Va.; Mary Beth Collins, of Bel Air, and Barbara Appnel, of Allentown, Pa). Also in attendance was the groom's brother-in-law, Ronald Katims, of Quechee, Vt.,; the bride's cousins, Judy and Don Millar, of New Hope, Minn.; and the couple's son-in-law, Tom Herron, of Reston, Va. Six grandchildren also attended: Connor Herron, Josh and Trent Hofmeister and Collin, Lizzie and Evie Appnel.
