The Ladies Auxiliary to the Water Witch Fire Company hosted the county-wide auxiliary's quarterly dinner meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the VFW Post 8185, Port Deposit. Six fire company auxiliaries plus the state-wide auxiliary sent representatives to this meeting, with a total of 53 in attendance. Auxiliary President Stephanie Gibson's kitchen crew of Marie Tennis, Maggie Jackson, Carrie McCall, Cindy Bare, Tara Posadas, Janet Dill, Ann Delp and Charlotte LaFond prepared and served a delicious ham dinner. The visiting ladies thoroughly enjoyed the Victorian Street Carolers and even Santa made an appearance with gifts for all.
Fourteen members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Water Witch Fire Company plus three guests enjoyed dinner at the Bayou Restaurant in Havre de Grace Dec. 12. The ladies met to exchange gifts as part of the "Secret Pal Club." On hand were officers: Stephanie Gibson, Anne Gibson, Carrie McCall, Cindy Bare, Maggie Jackson, Charlotte LaFond and I, along with Charlotte's sons, Joseph and Elias. Members present included Ann Delp, Tara Posadas, Christine Farley, Janet Dill, Marie Tennis, Elizabeth Gibson, plus Dawn Little and her mom.
Get well wishes are sent to Donnie Crabbe, as he has been on the sick list lately.
Teresa Bittner, well-known former Port-ite, fell in her assisted-living facility and broke her right hip on Dec. 12. She underwent surgery at Harford Memorial on Dec.13 and was discharged to Citizen's Care Center for rehab on Dec. 16. Speedy recovery!
The St. Patrick's Chapel Historical Society canceled the holiday Mass at St. Patrick's Chapel, Pilottown (Conowingo), on Saturday, Dec. 14 because of the forecasted snow. Bill Pare opened the chapel anyway and offered refreshments that morning to any brave visitors who were undaunted by the bad weather.
Happy birthday to Melanie Buchanan, Billy Fletcher, Daniel Martin, Jim Barton, Father Leonard Kempski, and Susan Steinhilber…who all celebrated on Dec. 15.
The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185 entertained the veterans from Perry Point on Sunday, Dec. 15 at the post home on Susquehanna River Road. After a delicious dinner prepared by Auxiliary President Kathy Heaton, music and karaoke was provided by DJ Bob Cross. Additional musical selections were rendered by Cindi Lamb Wiley. Santa and Miss Millie distributed phone cards and special coins to all the veterans and the ladies prepared gift bags for all. The men and ladies were each given a new pillow as they prepared to get on the bus to return to Perry Point. Kathy's servers included Ruth Turner, Jen Edwards, Amy Lipka and Stephanie Gibson; the raffle tickets were distributed by Pat Job; Anne Gibson and Shirley Eller manned the Santa Shoppe; and I took the Santa photos.
Connie Kapral Galvan, daughter of Fran and Bill Kapral of Colora, enjoyed birthday greetings on Dec. 19.
The Perryville and Port Deposit Lions Clubs will sponsor "Pictures with Santa" on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Perryville Outlets. The pictures will cost $5 each and the photos will be taken in Store 39. Support this annual Lions fundraiser which in turn will support several community projects.
The Port Deposit Presbyterian Church, 44 S. Main St., will hold a community candlelight service on Christmas Eve starting at 7 p.m. Plan to be there!
The Port Deposit Lions Club will hold its annual carol sing in front of the Bank Building in the town square near the town's Christmas tree. The singing starts at 7 p.m. and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Water Witch Fire Company will again provide hot chocolate and cookies. The holiday poem, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," will be read aloud and all children attending will receive a treat from Santa after he arrives via Water Witch Fire Company fire truck.
The Havre de Grace Elks will sponsor an all-you-can-eat, self-serve waffle breakfast on Sunday, Dec. 29 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at their lodge at 940 Pulaski Highway.
