Better late than never with the results of this year's decorating contest in Port. The 2013 "Magic on Main" winners are: first place, Kim and Allen Dooling, 13 N. Main St.; second place, Linda and Ray Singleton, 84-86 S. Main St.; and third place, Mike and Amy Lipka, 216 N. Main St. Lee Banks and Marsha Barkowsky received the best business award for The Carriage House at 80 S. Main St. Judging was done on Dec. 21 by two members of Cecil County's Tourism Office and the winners were announced by Mayor Wayne Tome on Christmas Eve during the Lions' Club Carol Sing in the town square.
Sadly, I report that my Aunt Teresa Bittner passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 25 days after falling and breaking her right hip. A Port Deposit icon, she will be sorely missed by her nieces and nephews and loving friends.

"Bethany's Angels," a Cecil County Relay for Life Team, will sponsor a Basket and Bag Bingo on Saturday at the Port Deposit VFW Post 8185, 520 Susquehanna River Road. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the games will begin at 7 p.m. Bring a non-perishable food item for a ticket on a special prize. Enjoy homemade cakes, pies and special desserts. Much sympathy is extended to the family and friends of James A. Page of Perryville, as he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on Jan. 2. His visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 12 at the American Legion Post 135, 300 Cherry St., Perryville, from 2 to 5 p.m., with the funeral service at 3 p.m.
A Basket Bingo will be held on Sunday at the American Legion Post 194, 336 E. Main St., Rising Sun. This year's indoor flea market at Good Shepherd Catholic School is set for Saturday, Feb. 1 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. This is a high-traffic event! The Port Deposit Heritage Corporation postponed January's board meeting until Wednesday, Feb. 5, since the first Wednesday in January is New Year's Day.
