The deadline is looming for Hatem Bridge users to get their E-ZPass transponders free of choice from the Maryland Transportation Authority.

The MDTA reminds motorists that Thursday, Jan. 31, is the last day to receive a Hatem Bridge Only Choice A E-ZPass Transponder at no charge.

Effective Friday, Feb. 1, there will be a nonrefundable $9 fee for new Hatem Bridge Only transponders.

MDTA also reminded motorists this week that Hatem Bridge Only Choice A transponders may only be used at the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge Route 40 toll plaza in Perryville and may not be used at any other Maryland toll facility or in another state.

The Choice A plan currently costs $10 per year for unlimited trips across the Hatem Bridge. The Hatem Bridge only toll plan will increase to $20 per year starting July 1.

Choice A plans and transponders can be purchased at two E-ZPass in the Perryville area.

Business hours at the John F. Kennedy Highway and Hatem Bridge E-ZPass Stop-in Centers are as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. You need to bring your vehicle license plate numbers(s) and cash, check or a credit card.

Customers may also sign up for the Hatem Bridge plans at MDTA's other E-ZPass Stop-in Centers near Maryland toll facilities or on-line at ezpassmd.com.

E-ZPass Maryland Stop-in Centers and Customer Service Center will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, to observe the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Offices will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

MDTZ reminds motorists to properly install your E-ZPass transponder. Failure to properly install the transponder may result in a charge for the video toll rate, which is $9 at the Hatem Bridge. For instructions and additional information, visit mdta.maryland.gov.
