Each week, Steve Jones of the Carroll Eagle offers his view of the game to watch ...
Week 1: Linganore at South Carroll, Friday, Aug. 31, 7 p.m.
1300 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield
As the 2012 high school season opens, the South Carroll Cavaliers, Carroll's only playoff team in 2011, starts a brutal early-season schedule against a perennial state title contender.
The Cavaliers, under head coach Steve Luette (in his fourth season) went 6-5 overall and 6-1 county last year, and were a Class 2A West Region semifinalist.
Linganore, which won the Class 3A state title in 2009, finished 7-4 last fall and made a playoff appearance.
The Lancers play the same type of physical football as the Cavaliers — and rolled to a 28-6 victory over South Carroll in last year's opener.
South Carroll is aiming to make it to the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. A win Friday at home would get that campaign off to a fast start.
