State Police said Monday they are investigating the discovery of skeletal remains found this past weekend along a path in a vacant lot off Route 140 in Westminster.
Homicide investigators were contacted by Westminster Police Department after a human bone was found by citizens as they walked through a vacant lot in the 500 block of Baltimore Boulevard (Route 140) in Westminster, shortly before noon on Sat., Oct. 6.
Police said the citizens immediately called 911, and after investigators arrived, a search of the area revealed additional skeletal remains.
Police said the remains were processed and recovered at the scene, then were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an examination and autopsy.
Investigators said they are unable to identify the remains, but the medical examiner's findings indicate they are "consistent with a male." Studies are continuing to determine the cause of death.
State police said information has been communicated to departments throughout the region and requests have been made to check missing person files for potential matches. Additional forensic tests are continuing.
State police homicide investigators are continuing the investigation, assisted by Westminster Barrack criminal investigators, crime scene technicians and the Westminster Police Department.
