Ebb Valley Elementary School, Manchester Elementary School, and Manchester Valley High School have all been selected for certification as Maryland Green Schools for 2012, according to the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education.
Two other Carroll County public schools, Sykesville and West middle schools, were already "green schools," and were approved for recertification.
The school were cited for various environmental programs and educational efforts implemented by staff and students.
The schools were scheduled to be recognized during the Maryland Green School Youth Summit on June 1, at Sandy Point State Park. Each new Green School receives a Maryland Green School flag.
The Maryland Green Schools program challenges schools to integrate the environment into the school culture, including professional development for teachers, curricular integration and community involvement.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
