County officials are encouraging residents to consider recycling Christmas trees after the holidays for use as compost, mulch or wood chips.
Residents can drop off Christmas trees at the Northern Landfill and Recycling Center, 1400 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; or at the Hoods Mill Landfill, 7901 Kabik Court, Woodbine, the first and third Saturdays of the month from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Note that the Northern Landfill will close at noon on Dec. 31, and will be closed Jan. 1 all day. Call 410-386-4550 during inclement weather for operating hours.
Residents living within a municipality may contact town or city offices for the Christmas tree pick-up schedule.
Residents living outside incorporated areas should contact their waste hauler to find out if Christmas tree pick-up is provided.
Before disposing of any tree, remove all non-organic objects such as lights, wire, tinsel and ornaments.
