Charles "Buck" Jacob Miller Jr., 71, of Westminster, died Sept 27at the University of Maryland Hospital.

Born Sept. 17, 1940, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles Jacob Miller Sr. and Clara Johanna Ernst Miller.

He was the husband of Katherine E. Miller, whom he married on July 5, 2008.

He was the president of C.J. Miller, LLC, the Hampstead-based excavating, paving and construction company he founded in 1959.

He belonged to the Wesley United Methodist Church, Pigeon Hills Snowmobile Club, United Coon Hunters Association, Fraternal Order of Eagles Littlestown Aerie 2226, Westminster Moose Lodge 1381, Maryland Asphalt Association, Utility Contractors of Maryland and the Baltimore County Highway Contractors.

He was also a past member of Carroll County Economic Development, Carroll County 4H and FFA Fair Board and was a supporter of the Carroll County 4H and FFA Fair.

He enjoyed farming in his haybine and mower, vacationing in Aruba, mud bogging at Kingsdale Volunteer Fire Department, getting the track ready for the tractor pulls at the Ag Center, catering for his annual company picnic, and relaxing as a "Boss Hoss Trike" rider.

He took great pride in all of his employees and enjoyed visiting the work sites and seeing their progress.

He was the son-in-law of Nowlin Gough of Dillwyn, Va. and the late Alice Hudson.

Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are children and spouses Lisa Marie and William Utz of Manchester, Charles Jacob Miller III and Tanya, and Billy Miller, all of Westminster; and step-children Matthew and Kaitlin Davis, both of Westminster. He has five granddaughters — Billie and Bobbie Utz, and Trinity, Atley and Jaycey Miller.

He is also survived by two brothers.

The family received friends at the Pleasant Valley Fire Hall, where funeral services were held with the Rev. Curtis Ehrgott officiating. Interment followed in Wesley United Methodist Cemetery, Hampstead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157. Arrangements are by Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, Westminster.
