Carroll Hospital Center Foundation recently presented scholarships to five local students to help assist them in pursuing their college education.

Libman Nursing Scholarships were awarded to Brittany Harman, 25, of Woodbine; Denise Maurice, 46, of Westminster; and Ricky Teuscher, 26, of Manchester.

Each received $2,000 for tuition, books and fees at Carroll Community College for their pursuit of a degree as a registered nurse. The scholarship was established in 2003 by Frank Herbert Libman.

The Scholarship for Dependents of Associates was presented to Taylor Sautter, 18, of Westminster, daughter of Susan Sautter, a pharmacy technician at Carroll Hospital. Sautter received $2,500 toward studies at Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga., where she plans to major in animal science with a focus on pre-veterinarian studies. The scholarship, was first established in 2006 with a gift from Dr. and Mrs. Michael Kane.

The Virginia Minnick Auxiliary Scholarship was awarded to Westminster resident Rebecca Wagman, 18. She is the daughter of Tricia Wagman, a nurse who works in the hospital's Learning Center, and is an active volunteer at the GFWC STARS Juniorette Club ofWestminster.

Wagman attends the University of Maryland, majoring in biomedical engineering. The $2,500 scholarship was started by Virginia Shipley Minnick.

Something crabby in New Windsor

The New Windsor Auxiliary is hosting its crab cake sale, and is taking orders for fried or raw crab cakes for $5.50 each. Orders must be placed by Tuesday, Sept. 27. Raw crab cakes can be picked up after 10 a.m. on Oct. 11 at Windsor Station, 101 High St., New Windsor. Fried crab cakes can be picked up after 11 a.m. the same day, and all orders must be picked up by 2 p.m. To order, call 410-635-6179.

Aiming to raise money for 4-H invitational

The Mayberry Game Protection Association, Mayberry Road, Westminster, will host a Sporting Clay Fundraising Shoot on Sunday, Oct. 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to raise funds to send members to the 4-H National Shooting Sports Invitational.
