Police said the woman, Brittany A. Warfield, of the 6800 block of John Pickett Rd., Woodbine, was pronounced dead Monday morning at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
On Monday, police added first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter. Brueckmann is currently being held at the Carroll County Detention Center.
Police had reported that on Sunday morning, Nov. 18, at about 9:30 a.m., they received a 911 call from someone reporting hearing a gunshot at a nearby residence. When state troopers and Carroll County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived, they found Brueckmann in the backyard of the residence holding Warfield, who was lying on the ground, police said.
According to reports, Warfield had sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound to her head, and was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma.
Police said they believe Brueckmann and Warfield lived together at the residence in the lower level of the home that was divided into two apartments, and that an argument may have led to the incident.
Police said a handgun was recovered inside the home yesterday and will be forwarded to the State Police Forensic Sciences Division for testing. Several long guns were also recovered from the home as police processed the scene, according to a police statement.
