An even dozen restaurants in downtown Westminster have signed on for the first City of Westminster's Downtown Restaurant Week, which started April 20 and runs through April 28.
The restaurants are all providing fixed price meal specials ending in "12" — such as lunch specials at O'Lordans Pub for $10.12 or a three-course at Rafael's for $25.12 — a nod to both the year 2012 and the number of restaurants participating.
The event is being organized by the City of Westminster's downtown promotions team, and is designed to celebrate all that the downtown eateries have to offer.
"I am very excited to be a part of anything that brings people to downtown Westminster and reinforces the importance of supporting local small businesses," said Sherri Hosfeld Joseph, owner of Birdie's Cafe.
"We have so much to offer on Main Street," she said. "I realize it's very easy for consumers to forget that we have such a vital downtown district which addresses just about any shopping or dining need you could have."
The offerings reflect the diversity of Main Street fare — from French and Italian to Irish and Mexican. The following restaurants are participating:
Families with children are welcome at restaurants.
In addition to spreading the word about food selections, many of the eateries involved in Restaurant Week routinely offer entertainment and other features, such as music performances, poetry readings and special events — and hope residents learn about those offerings as well.
For example, Maggie's, Rafael's and O'Lordan's Irish Pub have music nights; Birdie's Cafe has poetry readings; Johansson Dining House has a "Brew Sessions" series and Giulianova Groceria has a live cooking lessons series.
"Events like Restaurant Week are great reminders of all the amazing things that can be found downtown, being created, sold, crafted by your friends and neighbors," Hosfeld Joseph said.
