Garrison Forest stayed unbeaten in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference Wednesday, blanking visiting Severn, 4-0.
Junior forward Brooke Adler led the winners' attack with a goal and two assists.
The defending league champion Grizzlies overwhelmed Severn in the first half by scoring three goals.
Garrison Forest (9-1 overall, 6-0 league) pressured the Admirals (4-7, 1-4) immediately, forcing goalie Allie Kenlien to make three saves in the first four minutes.
Austin Davis, stationed on the right post, redirected Adler's pass into the cage just 3:23 into the opening period.
About 10 minutes later, Adler slapped a shot past Kenlien to boost the Grizzlies' lead to 2-0.
Isabel Boyce finished Garrison Forest's first-half scoring, outhustling a pack of players for a loose ball in front of the goal before beating Kenlien.
"We have some highly skilled players who can literally move move the ball down the field, dodging people," Garrison Forest coach Traci Davis said. "It might not be easy, but they make it look easy."
Erica Marshall added a second-half goal for the Grizzlies while teammate Ali Flax, a senior goalie, made six saves to record her fifth shutout of the season.
Flax, who never played in the cage before the season, replaced Kendall Kuntz, who is out indefinitely with a broken foot.
"Ali is just a terrific athlete and one of our captains," Davis said. "When she knew we needed help in goal, she stepped up and said, 'I will do whatever I need to do for the team.'"Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
