After suffering back-to-back non-league losses by a goal each, Boys' Latin suffered its second consecutive seven-goal setback Friday afternoon when Loyola Blakefield dominated the Lakers, 13-7, in Towson.

Duke-bound midfielder Deemer Class paced the Dons with a pair of goals and four assists, but he was hardly the only standout for coach Jack Crawford's club.

Junior faceoff specialist Kevin O'Toole was another key factor for Loyola, as was a cohesive defensive unit anchored by senior longstick Matt Dunn and classmate Chris Thomas in the goal.

"Last year, we had two seniors and the rest were juniors," said Dunn, headed to the University of Maryland in the fall. "This year, we have more experience."

Dunn also praised Thomas for "stepping up on the field and stepping up as a leader, too."

He won't get an argument from BL coach Bob Shriver, who said that the Dons (10-1, 2-0 conference) played better against his team than any of its other opponents this season.

"They don't have any weaknesses," Shriver said. "They're big, fast and strong and do everything well. There's a lot to like."

Class assisted three of Loyola's goals — and scored two others — before halftime as the hosts ran out to a 6-3 advantage.

In the second half, freshman midfielder Ryan Conrad, junior attackman Jake Clise and senior midfielder T.J. Neubauer stretched the lead to 9-3 in the third quarter to put the Lakers (7-5, 0-2) away.

"We didn't have the ball much in the second half," Shriver said. "Credit their faceoff guy for that."
