Hundreds of students from Towson University, as well as local residents touched by cancer, took part in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event at Towson University Friday into Saturday, April 20-21.

The event, one of several relays scheduled throughout the region, raises money for research, awareness and support for the American Cancer Society.

Events started Friday with a survivors' lap, where those confronting cancer took the spotlight as others cheered. Later, a luminaria ceremony honored those either facing cancer, or who have lost their battles with the disease.

Throughout the night, teams walked laps around the Towson Center, raising money through pledges that teams had gathered prior to the event.
