The choir will have a performance and clinic with Dr. David DeVenney, professor of music and director of choral activities, West Chester University. Students will also tour Philadelphia and Independence Hall, and perform in the area en route to New York.
In New York, Calvert Hall students will perform a high level choral repertoire for Dr. Jerry Blackstone, director of choirs and chair of the Conducting Department, University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance, as part of the festival chorus at Carnegie Hall.
In other Calvert Hall news, students Daniel Binette, Paul Cillo, Dan DiPeppe, Liam Duggins, Nick Fleming, Denny Grace, Ryan Keenan, Alexander Kulik, Scott Lombardo, Haden Nugent and Jasper Pingul, together with Brother Joseph Kines of the school's finance department and Katlyn Patterson of the science and religion departments, were among the thousands who traveled toWashington, D.C. on Jan. 23, to attend the annual March for Life.
The rally was the culmination of three days of events marking the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion. Calvert Hall's group is active with the Respect Life Initiative, a new club at school.
Robin Bracato, an eighth-grader at St. Joseph School in Cockeysville, was honored as December's Student of the Month by the Optimist Club of Timonium.
She is a straight-A student and a member of the reading enrichment program, the robotics club, dram club, It's Academic Team and the Math Olympiad Team.
She was the second-place winner in the Stokes Math Competition, had the highest GPA for the sixth and seventh grades and was the recipient of the St. Joseph School two-year scholarship.
In addition, Robin is also active in church activities. She participates in Camp Smile, the stream-cleaning club, and is an altar server.
She also helps to collect for the car pool pantry, volunteers for Respect for Life committee events and attended March for Life in Washington and Annapolis.
