Jacksonville Fourth of July events: Kids Bike and Pet Parade, Saturday, June 30, Manor Shopping Center. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
The parade weaves through the center's parking lot at 10 a.m. Kids encouraged to wear costumes and decorations and to dress up their pets and their bikes. Prizes will be awarded.
Celebration at Jacksonville Elementary School. Music, kids games and performances by magician Apple John, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Also includes contests hosted by Greater Jacksonville Optimist Club. Golf ball drop- contestants buy a golf ball for $10. Then, a crane lifts all the entry balls into the air and drops them over a hole. The person owning the ball that goes into the hole or closest to it wins cash — up to $500 if all 150 balls are sold. Proceeds go to Optimists Childhood Cancer Campaign.Celebration-goers are invited to pack a picnic; however, food will be available for purchase.

Hereford Festival and Parade, Sunday, July 1. Festival at the intersection of York and Mt. Carmel roads from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring food and crafts vendors, as well as community group booths.
A Kids Bike Parade is held behind the Hereford Volunteer Fire Company. Kids with decorated bikes should arrive at 3 p.m.
The Hereford Parade starts at 3:30 p.m. Winners in each age group ride in Hereford's fire engine in the parade at 6 p.m. Parade starts at 6 p.m.; the route starts at Mt. Carmel Road by Interstate 83 and moves to Hereford High School. Both York and Mt. Carmel roads will be closed to traffic at 5:30 p.m. People are invited to sign up to join in the parade. Parade participants include antique cars, fire engines and farm equipment; Hereford Middle School's steel band; pipe and drum band from Virginia; and mascots, such s McGruff the crime dog and the Turkey Hill dairy cow.
