I have been a resident of Catonsville for over 20 years. Catonsville has been a wonderful community for me and my family.
My wife and I raised our two daughters here; both attended the wonderful Catonsville schools.
While we have enjoyed the great turf field at Catonsville High School for Baltimore County recreational league lacrosse and field hockey games, we simply need more fields.
Area tournaments are often held in Howard County or on various private school campuses, due to the lack of fields in our area.
The availability of ample acreage on the Spring Grove campus affords a rare opportunity to amend this situation. If Spring Grove can be re-developed into playing fields for our children, we can encourage more tournament play in our area, further preparing our youth for better high school and, eventually, college sports play.
The additional fields could also be used by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and the Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville for tournaments as well.
We should encourage people to shop in local Catonsville businesses on Frederick Road and nearby Ellicott City, not create more competition for them when we already have nearby malls in Columbia and Security Square.
We have hotels on Baltimore National Pike already.
Let's take this opportunity to do something for our children and their future!
