He cannot understand why people would vote to increase taxes on themselves. I'll try to explain and I'll use small words so he can follow along.
During the last 11 years, we have been fighting three wars (Iraq, Afghanistan and the "Global War on Terror") and we didn't pay a dime for any of them. The Bush administration and Congress took the whole budget for these wars "off the books."
We have spent close to $10 trillion on those wars and the bill is now due. Care for the 60,000 wounded servicemen and women from these wars alone will cost $300 billion.
People do not want to borrow more money for these "failed endeavors"; they want to pay them off. That means raising taxes. It's the responsible thing to do. It would be "suicide" not to do so.
Mr. Seymour also asserts that Americans voted to continue a "failed foreign policy of alienating and abandoning our allies". He must be thinking of the Bush foreign policy that trashed our traditional allies, like Britain and France, to pursue his vendetta against Saddam Hussein.
Mr. Seymour needs to stop watching Fox News and see more of the world. President Obama is far more popular and America is far more respected for her true values across the world than we were four years ago.
Mr. Seymour cannot understand why Americans would "vote to destroy our traditional form of government." What is he talking about? Rule by racist, white male plutocrats?
Maybe we voted against that because most of us don't benefit from government by the rich and for the rich. We voted not to destroy our society, our economy and our ability to defend ourselves, but to save those things from greedy, grasping billionaires and their dupes in the Republican/Tea Party, who want to spend unlimited money on wars of choice but not pay for any of it.
We voted to create a future for all Americans, not for concentrating all the wealth into the hands of the top 1 percent, who pay much lower taxes than the rest of us.
Mr. Seymour implies that this generation has betrayed the sacrifices of "the greatest generation". How dare he belittle the sacrifice of our servicemen and women,, who have sacrificed just as much and more over the last 11 years! We owe it to them and their sacrifice to pay for the wars they had to fight.
Lincoln famously said that you can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.
Fox News (owned by a non-American) may have fooled Mr. Seymour and millions of other Americans but it couldn't fool us all, despite hundreds of millions of dollars anonymously spent to buy the election.
It's time for the losers stop whining and acting like the world is coming to an end. Man up, for God's sake.
