About Pat van den Beemt
Pat van den Beemt
Pat van den Beemt started covering North County in October 1986 for another publication. At the time, she had just gone back to school to get a bachelor's degree, having earned a junior college degree in 1969. She had an interest in writing, but had no experience. She figured she was the only applicant because she got the job anyway, and a camera, to boot, so she could take her own photos. We think someone else recognized a promising reporter when they saw one. After she graduated from the College of Notre Dame summa cum laude -- as Pat puts it, "It's amazing how hard you work when you're an adult and you're paying for it" -- she went to work for Patuxent, eventually becoming THE reporter for the North County News. She lives in "beautiful downtown Monkton" by the Bike & Hike trail with her husband, Eric, and yellow Lab, "Ollie," with whom she hikes Gunpowder Falls State Park. Pat also volunteers at the Hereford Library.
