Baltimore County police said a "major water main break" discovered early Wednesday morning has shut down York Road at Beaver Run Lane in Cockeysville.
According to a county police release, patrol units discovered the break at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, and after inspecting the damage, it was determined that the integrity of southbound York Road was compromised and that the integrity of the road going north was questionable.
The break occurred on a 12-inch pipe, according to Kurt Kocher of the Baltimore City Department of Public Works.
Police said business owners were being notified of the closure, which will be in place until the road is deemed safe.
Police recommend that motorists driving south from Hunt Valley take Shawan Road to I-83 South to get around the closure, and drivers coming north from Lutherville use Padonia Road to 1-83 to bypass the closure. There is no access to I-83 North from Warren Road.
